All Terrain tyres are a great option for SUV and 4WD owners who want the best of both worlds.
The right tyres for your SUV or 4WD depend greatly on how you plan to use it. If you intend to drive it mostly on-road for the everyday commute, but like the idea of a weekend escape then All Terrain (AT) tyres may be the right choice for you. AT tyres offer a good balance between off-road capabilities and general, everyday sealed road use.
When compared to a Highway Tyre, AT tyres have a deeper and more aggressive tread. On sealed roads, they offer relatively low noise and fuel consumption - though they are noisier than a HT tyre. However, if you do intend to take your SUV or 4WD on some light off-road adventures then the benefits of driving on a set of AT tyres will really come into play. They provide plenty of grip in off-road situations and their stronger sidewalls, compared to HT tyres, makes them less likely to suffer from damage caused by sticks and stones.

The Dueler A/T 697 has been found to offer excellent wear life and better resistance to cutting and chipping. It is considered a tough AT tyre, which provides better durability, less irregular wear and reduces noise in both new and worn condition.

BF Goodrich T/A KO2
BF Goodrich created the first all-terrain 4WD tyre in 1976. They consider the T/A KO2 their toughest AT tyre yet. Made for enduring harsh conditions including gravel, dirt, rock, mud and snow, the T/A KO2 delivers on durability and traction.
Key features include:
- Core Gard technology provides the sidewalls of the tyre with a resistance to splits and bruises.
- Tread rubber has been optimally blended to reduce chips and tears on gravel.
- A new footprint shape and interlocking tread design provide more uniform wear over the lifespan of the tyre.
Michelin Latitude Cross
Designed for 90% on-road use, Michelin describe the Latitude Cross as the tyre of choice for those who drive primarily on-road but need a tyre capable of handling light off-road duties. The Latitude Cross can withstand off-road conditions whilst still offering comfort and low noise on-road.
Key features include:
- The Mud Catcher tread pattern delivers more grip on most surfaces, including wet grass, dirt roads and mud.
- The Latitude Cross is quieter and has more driving comfort than the previous generation.
