Keeping in mind this is not a review but 3 suggestions to get you REALLY out there this summer.

BFGoodrich ALL TERRAIN T/A KO2

BFGoodrich were the first to create an all-terrain 4X4 tyre back in 1976 and have perfected the model ever since. The All-Terrain T/A KO2 is the toughest tyre the company has ever made. Engineered from BFGoodrich’s championship off-road motorsports racing technology division, the Ko2 4X4 tyre delivers outstanding toughness, durability and traction across any kind of surface the Australian landscape can throw at you. When you travel right to the end of that highway, the KO2 can handle gravel, dirt, rock, mud and snow, right through to snow!

Some Key Features of the KO2

  • The K02 uses a technology created in the Baja T/A KR2 4X4 tyres called CoreGard. This was developed for split and bruise-resistant sidewall rubber and a thicker, extended shoulder to prevent sidewall failures. The use of computer aided technology was used to predict object paths creating a sidewall design most likely to deflect protruding objects.
  • With an all new tread design and rubber formulation that helps it last twice as long on gravel and 15 percent longer on bitumen the KO2 outperforms its predecessor the KO 4WD tyre in every class. The tread rubber has also been optimally blended to reduce chips and tears usually from gravel roads. The all new footprint shape and interlocking tread design provide more uniform wear over the long-haul drives. With stone ejectors acting to push objects out of the tread pattern, the KO2 provides the ultimate protection against stones drilling into the tyre.
  • The KO2 4X4 tyre now performs better overall in mud and snow thanks to Side-Biter lugs in the sidewall which improve traction in mud, snow and through rocks and raised bars in the shoulder help release compacted mud for better traction in soft soil or sand.
  • The KO2’s staggered should blocks provide greater manoeuvrability in soft soil and deep snow. This, combined with 3-D active sipe technology provides more biting edges. It’s all of these new features that have helped the KO2 4X4 tyre exceed Rubber Manufacture Association (RMA) severe Snow Traction Requirements.

BRIDGESTONE DUELER A/T 697

Bridgestone’s Dueler A/T 697 is a purpose-built tyre for the road or trail. It’s one of many all-terrain 4X4 mud tyres put out by the manufacturer designed to combat the Australian landscape time and time again. While built to last, the A/T 697 delivers extended wear life, overall durability and ride comfort that 4WD enthusiasts have long been hoping for.

Some Key Features of the Dueler A/T 697

  • Bridgestone have extended wear life for both on and off the road with dual compound tread which is durable enough to withstand a puncture from sharp objects and strong enough to minimise everyday use and wear on our roads.
  • Dueler’s reinforced sidewall is designed for the driving conditions. The Dueler’s all terrain reinforced sidewalls efficiently distribute stress and resists abrasions and punctures that our harsh Australian roads throw at us.
  • The Dueler calls on designs from the light track series of Bridgestone’s tyres. ‘Light truck tyres have proved to the most puncture-resistant bush tyres and the new Dueler A/T 697 improves on the past’ – Allan Whiting
  • As the Dueler out performs off road, it’s also extremely quiet on road. The seamless connection of the jointless cap ply delivers improved tyre uniformity, meaning Dueler tyres run smoother with less road noise. The Dueler tyres hold their shape at high speeds and improved vehicle stability, strength and durability.
